On the Washington Times website I saw this story about some Alaskan native villages that are refusing free heating oil offered by Hugo Chavez. Seems they took exception to Chavez calling the President "a devil". Seems they also have enough American spirit to spit in Chavez eye even though they are in dire financial straits.

So I'm thinking why not drop them a buck or two to help out some real Americans. I'm sure you could skip a McMeal or something to free up the coin.

What should the free world do while facing Islamist intimidation?

The reactions caused by Benedict XVI’s analysis of Islam and violence highlight the underhanded maneuver carried out by Islam to stifle what the West values more than anything, and which does not exist in any Moslem country: freedom of thought and expression.

Islam tries to impose its rules on Europe : opening of public swimming pools at certain hours reserved exclusively for women, ban on caricaturing this religion, demands for special diets for Muslim children in school cafeterias, struggle to impose the veil at school, accusations of Islamophobia against free spirits.

How can one explain the ban on the wearing thongs on Paris-Beaches* this summer? The reasoning put forth was bizarre: women wering thongs would risk “disturbing the peace”. Did this mean that bands of frustrated youths would become violent while being offended by displays of beauty? Or were the authorities scared of Islamist demonstrations by virtue squads near Paris-Beaches?

However, the authorization of the veil on the street is more disturbing to public peace than wearing a thong, because it invites complaints against the upholding the oppression of women .This ban represents an Islamization of sensibilities in France, a more or less conscious submission to the diktats of Islam. At the very least it is the result of the insidious Muslim pressure on the minds: even those who protested the introduction of a “Jean Paul II Square” in Paris would not be opposed to the construction of mosques. Islam is trying to force Europe to yield to its vision of humanity.

As in the past with Communism, the West finds itself under ideological watch. Islam presents itself, like defunct Communism, as an alternative to the Western world. In the way of Communism before it, Islam, to conquer spirits, plays on a sensitive string. It prides itself on a legitimacy which troubles Western conscience, which is attentive to others: it claims to be the voice of the oppressed of the planet. Yesterday, the voice of the poor supposedly came from Moscow, today it originates in Mecca! Again, today, western intellectuals incarnate the eye of the Koran, as they have incarnated the eye of Moscow. They now excommunicate people because of Islamophobia, as they did before because of anti-communism.

This opening to others, specific to the West, is a secularization of Christianity that can be summarized thus:the other person must come before myself. The Westerner, heir to Christianity, is the that exposes his soul bare. He runs the risk of being seen as weak. With the same ardor as Communism, Islam treats generosity, broadmindedness, tolerance, gentleness, freedom of women and of manners, democratic values, as marks of decadence. They are weaknesses that it seeks to exploit, by means of useful idiots, self-rigtheous consciences drowning in nice feelings, in order to impose the Koranic order on the Western world itself.

The Koran is a book of unparalleled violence. Maxime Rodinson states, in Encyclopedia Universalis, some truths that in France are as significant as they are taboo. On one hand: “Mohammed revealed in Medina unsuspected qualities as political leader and military chief (…) He resorted to private war, by then a prevalent custom in Arabia (….) Mohammed soon sent small groups of partisans to attack the Meccan caravans, thus punishing his unbelieving compatriots and simultaneously acquiring the booty of a wealthy man.”

There is more: “Mohammed profited from this success by eradicating the Jewish tribe which resided in Medina, the Quarayza, whom he accused of suspect behaviour.” And: “After the death of Khadija, he married a widow, a good housewife, called Sawda, and in addition to the little Aisha, barely ten years old. His erotic predilections, held in check for a long time, led him to ten simultaneous marriages .”

A merciless war chief, plunderer, slaughterer of Jews and a polygamist, such is the man revealed through the Koran.

Of , the Catholic church is not above reproach. Its history is strewn with dark pages, for which it has officially repentaed. The Inquisition, the hounding of witches, the execution of the philosophers Giordano Bruno and Vanini, those wrong-thinking Epicureans, in the 18th century the execution of the knight of La Barre for impiety, do not plead in the church’s favor. But what differentiates Christianity from Islam is obvious: it is always possible to go back to true evangelical values, the peaceful character of Jesus as opposed to the deviations of the Church.

None of the faults of the Church have their roots in the Gospel. Jesus is non-violent. Going back to Jesus is akin to forswear the excesses of the Church. Going back to Mahomet, to the conbtrary, reinforces hate and violence. Jesus is a master of love, Mahomet is a master of hatred.

The stoning of Satan, each year in Mecca, is not only an obsolete superstition. It not only sets the stage for a hysterical crowd flirting with barbarity. Its importis anthropological. Here is a rite, which each Muslim is invited to submit to, that emphasizes violence as a sacred duty in the very heart of the believer.

This stoning, accompanied each year by the acciedental trampling to death of some of the believers, sometimes up to several hundreds, is a rite that feeds archaic violence.

Instead of getting rid of this archaic violence, and thus imitating Judaism and Christianity (Judaism starts when it abandons human sacrifice, and enters civilization; Christianity transforms sacrifice through the Eucharist), Islam builds a nest for this violence, where it will incubate. Whereas Judaism and Christianity are religions whose rites spurn violence, by delegitimizing it, Islam is a religion that exalts violence and hatred in its everyday rites and sacred book.

Hatred and violence dwell in the book with which every Muslim is brought up, the Koran. As in the Cold War, where violence and intimidation were the methods used by an ideology hell bent on hegemony, so today Islam tries to put its leaden mantel all over the world. Benedict XVI’s cruel experience is testimony to this. Nowadays, the West has to be called the “free world” in comparison to the Muslim world; likewise, the enemies of the “free world”, the zealous bureaucrats of the Koran’s vision, swarm in the very center of the free World.

Anette Pharris, 34, has been indicted by a grand jury on charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and involving a minor in obscene acts. CLEARFIELD, Pa. (AP) - The burger war is growing. Literally. Denny's Beer Barrel Pub, which lost its crown as the home of the world's biggest burger earlier this year, is now offering a new burger that weighs a whopping 15 pounds.

Dubbed the Beer Barrel Belly Buster, the burger comes with 10.5 pounds of ground beef, 25 slices of cheese, a head of lettuce, three tomatoes, two onions, a cup-and-a-half each of mayonnaise, relish, ketchup, mustard and banana peppers - and a bun.

It costs $30.

"It can feed a family of 10," said Denny Liegey Sr., the restaurant's owner.

Denny's Beer Barrel Pub had offered a 6-pound burger - with 5 pounds of toppings.

In February, a 100-pound female college student became the first to eat the burger within the three-hour time limit. Kate Stelnick, of Princeton, N.J., was awarded a special certificate, a T-shirt and other prizes and Leigey picked up the $23.95 tab for the burger.

One month later, the Clinton Station Diner in Clinton, N.J., introduced a 12.5-pound burger dubbed Zeus.

So Liegey responded, and the Belly Buster was born.

Over the weekend, four men took the challenge, but couldn't get through the entire burger. They opted for doggie bags, instead.

"It's a little too much for me to handle," said Steve Hepburn, of Clearfield. "It's like trying to eat half a cow."

Now before the howls of protest begin, I feel for that lady. Life gave her the shitty end of the stick and I would not have wanted to be in her husbands or her family's position. TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

I, being of sound mind and body, do not wish to be kept alive indefinitely by artificial means.

Under no circumstances should my fate be put in the hands of peckerhead judges or politicians who couldn't pass ninth-grade biology if their lives depended on it.

If a reasonable amount of time passes and I fail to sit up and ask for something along the lines of BBQ, bacon, steak, bisquits and gravy, coffee or a blowjob, it should be presumed that I won't do so ever again. When such a determination is reached, I hereby instruct my spouse (or current girlfriends, concubines, live-in-lovers), children and attending physicians to pull the plug, reel in the tubes and call it a day.

Under no circumstances shall the members of the Legislature enact a special law to keep me on life-support machinery. It is my wish that these morons mind their own damn business, and continue screwing the millions of Americans who aren't in a permanent coma and yet remain unaware of the fucking they are getting.

Under no circumstances shall any politicians butt into this case. I don't care how many fundamentalist votes they're trying to scrounge for their run for the Presidency, it is my wish that they play politics with someone else's life and leave me alone to die in peace. 1. Don't enter your real personal info on websites. Make up a fake persona; name, phone, address, city, state, country, the whole nine yards. Other wise you'll be bombarded with spam, telemarketers, jehovahs witnesses constantly. Dodgeit.com lets you create a disposable email addy for signing up for stuff. It gives you a legitimate addy to receive login info but you never have to check it again.

2. Do not, I repeat, Do NOT use Internet Explorer to surf the web. Unless of course you'd like to pick up every virus, trojan and other malware out here. Instead follow this link to get Firefox: Get Firefox here

3. DON'T Surf without an antivirus program (and keep the damn thing updated). Try not to be part of the problem. Get a free antivirus program here: AVG by Grisoft It'll even update itself daily, so you lazy jerks don't have to do any work.

4. You're gonna find cartoons, pictures and jokes by the score. To you they are fresh and funny. Resist the impulse to share with everybody on your list. The rest of us have seen them a hundred times.When you find that you just can't keep from sharing your new treasures with the world, be good enough use the BCC function on your email program so that you don't give out everyones email address to the world at large. It cuts down on spam. Oh and for pities sake don't use Outlook Express for your mail client. It's just as vulnerable to infection as Internet Explorer. 5. Spam. All those advertisements you're seeing in your email inbox are spam. Don't open them, don't respond to them in any way. And for damn sure don't buy anything from them. unless of course you like sorting through three thousand emails a day for penis enlargers, fake rolex watches, prescription drugs, etc.

6. Don't open attatchments of any kind from anybody unless you know who sent it and what it's supposed to be. Even your friends can get viruses and send them on to you.

7. Turn the damn CAPS key off. Nothing marks a person as a noob faster than typing in all caps.

8. Chain lettters. Don't read them, don't forward them. Nothing will happen to you, Bill Gates will not send you money for sending email., the little kid is now 37 and does'nt need your cards anymore. This is another thing that marks you as a noob.

9. Porn sites. Good places to pick up browser hijackers, phone dialers that call far off places with your computer at 9.95 a minute, spyware and other assorted nasties. Otherwise, Enjoy.

10. The Dark Side: So you want to be a script kiddie? Hacker sites, warez sites and such places love setting traps for noobs. They love answering the same questions over and over again. So if you want a really nasty infection thats the place to go. Peer to peer is a risky deal these days also. Talk to the RIAA and the MPAA about that. IRC? IRC is still the wild west, your only protection out there is you. Have fun.

The DMCA is a really lousy piece of law that encourages abuse. The two examples from the article linked to in the title ( just click the title to read it) illustrate this point clearly. Lexmark tried to use the DMCA to eliminate competition to enable themselves to keep gouging customers for ink cartidges. Chamberlin was trying to do the same with garage door openers. Since I first read about Lexmarks suit, I have trashed my Lexmark printer and gone to Canon. I urge everybody out there to do the same. In fact, why not just box them up and send them back to lexmark (minus any cartridges of course) as a form of protest over their price gouging. If I hadn't used mine as a target for some long range pistol shooting I'd damn sure do it. You can certainly bet I'll never own another Lexmark product even if it's bundled or given to me free.

To amend title 18, United States Code, to discourage spyware, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the `Internet Spyware (I-SPY) Prevention Act of 2004

SEC. 2. PENALTIES FOR CERTAIN UNAUTHORIZED ACTIVITIES RELATING TO COMPUTERS.

`Sec. 1030A. Illicit indirect use of protected computers

(c) No person may bring a civil action under the law of any State if such action is premised in whole or in part upon the defendant's violating this section. For the purposes of this subsection, the term `State' includes the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and any other territory or possession of the United States."

And look here at what's in section 6 of H.R.2929 AKA the SPY Act just recently passed. So much for California and Utah's much more stringent spyware laws. Thanks Congress for fucking those up too. Hope the money is worth it.

(1) PREEMPTION OF SPYWARE LAWS- This Act supersedes any provision of a statute, regulation, or rule of a State or political subdivision of a State that expressly regulates--

(B) the transmission or execution of a computer program similar to that described in section 3; or

(C) the use of computer software that displays advertising content based on the Web pages accessed using a computer.

(2) ADDITIONAL PREEMPTION-

(A) IN GENERAL- No person other than the Attorney General of a State may bring a civil action under the law of any State if such action is premised in whole or in part upon the defendant violating any provision of this Act.

(B) PROTECTION OF CONSUMER PROTECTION LAWS- This paragraph shall not be construed to limit the enforcement of any State consumer protection law by an Attorney General of a State.

(3) PROTECTION OF CERTAIN STATE LAWS- This Act shall not be construed to preempt the applicability of

(A) State trespass, contract, or tort law; or

(B) other State laws to the extent that those laws relate to acts of fraud.

(b) Preservation of FTC Authority- Nothing in this Act may be construed in any way to limit or affect the Commission's authority under any other provision of law, including the authority to issue advisory opinions (under Part 1 of Volume 16 of the Code of Federal Regulations), policy statements, or guidance regarding this Act.

Microsoft gets the boot from Germany. Interesting article but most of all maybe getting squeezed out municipal markets will open M$'s eyes and get them to rethink and retool. As much as I dislike M$ products, even I have to admit their software offerings are basically good items. If M$ would just loosen up and quit worrying about getting a stranglehold on everything, get away from the proprietary mindset and concentrate more on providing secure, working, accessible software they might not be in this fix. It's all about perception and right now M$ is perceived more as Big Brother, with its draconian license agreements, demands for inspections and refusal to let users modify its software to meet their specific needs. WTF is a Penis Launcher? Is it a new product line from Lorena Bobbit Industries? Something for long distance relationships? A new Olympic sport? (even though my enquiring mind wanted to know, I did NOT, repeat, NOT download anything but the header from this piece of spam trash, much less open it.)

I don't know about other guys but I'm really attached to my penis. It's been with me all my life, providing countless hours of entertainment. I for one am not launching my penis anywhere.What possible benefit could be worth losing my best friend, not to mention having to pee sitting down from then on?

Now I understand where all the morons are coming from..

It started out innocently enough. I began to think at parties now and then to loosen up. Inevitably though, one thought led to another, and soon I was more than just a social thinker.

I began to think alone - "to relax," I told myself - but I knew it wasn't true. Thinking became more and more important to me, and finally I was thinking all the time.

I began to think on the job. I knew that thinking and employment don't mix, but I couldn't stop myself.

I began to avoid friends at lunchtime so I could read Thoreau and Kafka. I would return to the office dizzied and confused, asking, "What is it exactly we are doing here?"

Things weren't going so great at home either. One evening I had turned off the TV and asked my wife about the meaning of life. She spent that night at her mother's.

I soon had a reputation as a heavy thinker. One day the boss called me in. He said, "Skippy, I like you, and it hurts me to say this, but your thinking has become a real problem. If you don't stop thinking on the job, you'll have to find another job." This gave me a lot to think about.

I came home early after my conversation with the boss. "Honey," I confessed, "I've been thinking..."

"I know you've been thinking," she said, "and I want a divorce!"

"But Honey, surely it's not that serious."

"It is serious," she said, lower lip a quiver. "You think as much as college professors, and college professors don't make any money, so if you keep on thinking we won't have any money!"

"That's a faulty syllogism," I said impatiently, and she began to cry. I'd had enough. "I'm going to the library," I snarled as I stomped out the door.

I headed for the library, in the mood for some Nietzsche, with a PBS station on the radio. I roared into the parking lot and ran up to the big glass doors... they didn't open. The library was closed.

To this day, I believe that a Higher Power was looking out for me that night.

As I sank to the ground clawing at the unfeeling glass, whimpering for Zarathustra, a poster caught my eye. "Friend, is heavy thinking ruining your life?" it asked. You probably recognize that line. It comes from the standard Thinker's Anonymous poster.

Which is why I am what I am today: a recovering thinker. I never miss a TA meeting. At each meeting we watch a non-educational video; last week it was "Porky's." Then we share experiences about how we avoided thinking since the last meeting.

I still have my job, and things are a lot better at home. Life just seemed...easier, somehow, as soon as I stopped thinking.
